Mental Health Social Workers

Mental Health or Clinical Social Workers

  • Consider more than just the psychological aspects of mental health

  • Integrate the psychological aspects of a person with the broader context of their life such as bio-social needs to more effectively manage their mental health.

 

Mental Health Social Workers are:

  • skilled at understanding how emotional, mental and behavioural issues are connected to a person's environment and broader life context

  • highly capable in dealing with complex mental health issues 

  • trained to use a wide range of evidence based therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy, ACT, EMDR 

 

Mental Health Social Workers are university qualified with specific post graduate mental health training including:

  • A four year University degree with many Mental Health Social Workers also holding Masters level degrees.

  • Two years post graduate supervised practice in mental health

  • Accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers with ongoing training and professional development to maintain registration.

 

Mental Health Social Workers are able to offer Medicare rebates when clients are referred by their GP under a Mental Health Care Plan.
